Pinning of digital ink with UV LED DROLED lamps

In the inkjet printing industrial processes UV LED curable inks are often used. They allow to reach high quality of the print, glossy or matt finishing, high mechanical and chemical strength, besides excellent scratch resistance.
During the phase of inkjet UV printing, it is important to maintain an high definition and also the position and the shape of the ink drops deposited from the printhead on the support. Different kind of supports and parameters, as ink viscosity and surface tension, can act negatively on the definition, worsening the quality and the final result. Very often it is necessary to find solutions that keep high the drops definition.
The ink drops, once deposited from the printhead to the support, can get deformed and moved from their first position and this can happen also in very brief time. The solution to counter these phenomena is to use UV LED lamps specific for ink pinning or gelification, positioning them very next to the inkjet heads, it is possible to gel and lock immediately the ink on the original position.
The inkjet printing industrial market requires UV LED inks to be adaptable to the features of the support, but also to its end use, for example inks for flexible supports as synthetic leather have to be adaptable and resistant to subsequent processing steps, but also to wear of the finished item when it will be used. Otherwise inks for decoration of glass containers have to be very inflexible, have an high adhesion, be scratch and rub resistant, also be well combined with the liquid contained.
