Lighting discharge lamps (Metal-halide and Sodium High-pressure), are considered the best systems available today for their light emitted/current absorbed high ratio. The efficiency of such lamps, in fact reaches and in some types exceeds 80 lumen/watt, that is 5-6 times more the quartz-jodine lamps efficiency (at the same current absorption). Despite of the advantages, discharge lamps use on many enviroments has been limited because they can't be turned off and on again like normal incandescent lamps.
It is well known in fact that switching them off, it needs some minutes to let them to be restriked again. This problem is rather irritating in case of short electric power supply interruption or voltage dropped, due to main supply line troubles or momentary high energy absorptions.

The production covers the whole range of power supplies for Metal-halide and Sodium High pressure double-ended socket lamps .
Metal-Halide and Sodium High Pressure lamps can be immediately re-ignited after a main supply interruption by special devices called Hot Restrike Systems.
On fig.1 is showed the relative voltage that the ignitor must give to relight a metal-halide lamp in relation to the time elapsed from the main supply interruption. The maximum value is necessary after about 3 seconds, then ignition voltage begins to decrease up to reach the typical voltage necessary for the lamp cold start.
Normally H.R. systems are composed by a normal ballast and a special superimposed type ignitor, the device which produces the necessary High Voltage pulses for the lamp hot restrike.
Their value may change in according to the type and power of discharge lamp: 15-25 KV for HPS types, 30-40KV or even more for MH types.
